Six Social Posts to Honor Veterans Day

From parades to pancake breakfasts at the local VFW, Veterans Day is an important opportunity to pause and celebrate all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. And it should never be confused with Memorial Day (there’s a difference between the two). November 11 is a special time to show appreciation and thank all veterans for their dedicated service to our country.

Not sure of the best way to celebrate and say thanks? Here are six engaging posts to repurpose across your social media channels.

#1. Share the History of Veterans Day

Miltary.com provides easy-to-share resources, including a 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Veterans Day video and a History of Veterans Day article. The History Channel has also compiled a list of Veterans Day facts. Any of these can be paired with a post.

#2. Show Honor and Gratitude for Veterans

Inspire your followers by sharing a link to a helpful article from Military.com, which compiles everyday ideas to honor veterans, such as donating to a trusted veterans organization, volunteering at a local VA Hospital and writing thank-you notes to people who have served. Another idea? Highlight an event honoring veterans in your company, district or community, such as a parade, school program, newspaper article or television news segment.

#3. Host a Virtual Applause Parade

CEL Content Curator Kristin Boyd Edwards suggests creating a Virtual Applause Parade social media post that invites followers to simply comment with an applause emoji 👏  to recognize veterans. For Veterans Day, other emojis would be appropriate, too, including:

  • Red heart ❤️
  • String of patriotic red, white and blue hearts ❤️ 💙 🤍
  • American Flag 🇺🇸

#4. Ask Followers to Share Their Story

Andrea Gribble, owner of Social School 4 EDU, provides a simple Q&A prompt that both honors Veterans and encourages engagement among your followers. See more of her Veterans Day post ideas on her blog, including saluting your own. (Keep reading!)

#5. Salute Your Own Veteran

A genuine thank you goes a long way. Gribble suggests featuring veterans who work for and/or support your organization with a post that puts them in the spotlight. Many social media channels prefer posts that include images, not just words, so try to include their photo, if possible. Don’t have a photo you can use? Try creating a simple “Thank You” Facebook graphic, Twitter graphic or LinkedIn graphic in Canva.

#6. Post a Quote

One last idea to say “thank you” is to share a gratitude quote that will resonate with followers. From past presidents to poet Maya Angelou, here are several Veterans Day quotes compiled by The History Channel.
